Nominations are now open for the 2023 WHO Regional Office for Africa Antimicrobial Resistance Media Awards. These awards are aimed at confidential contributions to raising awareness of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and promoting responsible journalism in the field.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant threat to global health, and effective communication is crucial to addressing this issue. The Regional AMR Champion Journalist and Media House Awards seek confidence in journalists and media houses that champion and excel in reporting, investigative journalism, storytelling and advocacy related to AMR.

Categories

  • Regional AMR Champion Journalist Award: This award recognises individual journalists who have made outstanding contributions to AMR journalism through their investigative reporting, features, opinion pieces or other forms of media.
  • Regional AMR Champion Media House Award: This award is given to media houses that consistently engage in coverage of AMR-related topics, promote responsible reporting and raise public awareness of AMR through their organisational strategies.

Prizes

  • A personalised Quadripartite and African Union trophy/plaque will be presented to all the winners along with a prize.
  • In addition, the winners will have the opportunity to showcase their work during the celebration of World AMR Awareness Week 2023, which will be held from 18 to 24 November 2023 in Harare, Zimbabwe (paid trip).

Eligibility

  • Open to journalists and media organisations (Private/Commercial Radio, Community Radio, Television, Print Media, Online Media) operating in the African Region.
  • Entries must have been published or broadcast between 1st January 2022 and 30th September 2023.
  • Submissions can include articles, reports, TV or radio segments, documentaries, podcasts or online multimedia content.

Support Materials

  • Print records/Jpegs should be A4 size.
  • Slide show images: including videos and images that in some way represent your entry. This should not be used for the judging process, but can be used in a slide show at the awards ceremony to educate the public about the entries submitted.

Application

  • Fill in the official enrolment form available.
  • Please provide a brief description of the work submitted, including the title, publication/broadcast data and an abstract explaining its impact on AMR awareness.
