Programme overview

The Science, Technology and Policy Fellowship Programme (STeP) is an innovative IAI programme to improve human and institutional capacities in IAI member countries and support the provision of expert scientific advice to policymakers for the development of public policies relevant to global change.

STeP scientist fellows are placed in host government or private organisations to engage first-hand with policy and decision makers and facilitate the absorption of scientific knowledge into policy processes.

The STeP programme is training future Latin American and Caribbean leaders to participate in the science-policy interface through practical learning supported by professional development and mentoring.

STeP fellows will participate in IAI's inter-American network of STeP colleagues and alumni and share best practices and lessons learnt. This multinational network creates the means to integrate diverse knowledge and experience in different sectors and countries in response to the critical challenges of global change in the Americas. The network makes it possible to share resources, publicise job and other professional opportunities and contribute to career development and work collaboration at the end of the scholarship.
