Are you a professional or amateur photographer, or simply passionate about pain? Do you produce, process or promote millet and are you willing to share your experience? Join IYM Photo Contest 2023 and help publicise the many benefits of millet, from its diversity to the variety of nutritious dishes it can produce, its ability to thrive in arid lands and its market potential.
Your photograph must illustrate one or more of the following aspects:
- Millet can fight hunger and contribute to food security;
- Millet is climate-resistant;
- Corn is tasty and can contribute to a healthy diet;
- Millets offer promising livelihood opportunities for small farmers and small and medium-sized businesses for post-harvest and processing services;
- Millets are rich in heritage;
- Millet can be used in many innovative ways.
Prizes
- The first prize winner of the photo competition will be invited to the official closing ceremony of the International Year of Millet in 2024. Travelling expenses will be covered by the winner, in accordance with FAO rules.
- The winners will be announced on the International Year of Millet website at the beginning of December 2023.
- The winners will be promoted on FAO's social networks, by FAO offices around the world and partner websites.
- All five winners will receive a certificate of recognition and a surprise goody bag.
- In the event that any of the selected winners of any prize (who is ineligible under these Competition rules and/or the General, Copyright and Privacy Rules) cannot be traced or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and it will be at the FAO's sole discretion to decide whether to award the prize to another eligible entry.
- When the winning photos are published, only the name and surname will be published. No other personal information about the contestants will be published or shared.
Eligibility
- Participants must be aged 18 or over.
- Each participant can submit up to five photographs by filling in and submitting the entry form. Each photo must be sent separately by filling in the form.
- Participants must own the copyright and must have taken the photographs. The photographs must have been taken within the five-year period prior to the competition deadline (e.g. after 1 October 2018).
- Each photograph submitted must have a title and a brief description/caption explaining what the photo represents, considering one or more of the aspects mentioned, and where/when the photo was taken (max. 150 words).
- Participants are invited to post their photos on their social media accounts, using the AIM hashtags: #IYM2023 #YearofMillets and tagging @FAO.
- Photographs must be sent in .jpeg format. Images must be of high quality (e.g. 300 dpi and 5,000 pixels and a file size not exceeding 2 MB). Colour and/or black and white images will be accepted.
- The material must not violate or infringe the rights of third parties, including but not limited to trademarks, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights, or constitute copyright infringement.
- The submission must not contain dates, texts, brand names, logos or trademarks.
- The IYM Secretariat respects the rights of photographers and does not claim copyright over images submitted to this competition. The author retains all copyright in each entry. Whenever the image is published by the FAO, the author will be credited.
Application
- Step 1: Choose up to 5 of your own photos and prepare your captions.
- Step 2: Fill in and send the entry form by 31 October 2023 for each photo.
- Step 3: Share your photos on social media with the hashtags #IYM2023 and #YearOfMillets tagging @FAO.
