Applications are now open for the John and Alice Tyler Environmental Achievement Award 2024 . The John and Alice Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement is awarded for scientific work on the environment, energy and health, which has generated important benefits for humanity. The Prize is endowed by donations from the John and Alice Tyler Charitable Trusts, and the recipients are chosen weekly by the Executive Committee. The University of Southern California is the administrator of the Tyler Prize.
The fundamental objective of the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement is a voluntary contribution to:
- Protecting, maintaining, improving or understanding an ecological or environmental condition;
- Discovery, development or improvement of energy sources; and
- Understanding or improving planetary health.
Publicity
- The annual prize is US$ 250,000. Joint winners share the prize money.
Eligibility
- Individuals and public or private organisations are eligible for consideration.
- Nominations from all over the world are welcome and encouraged.
Criteria
The work of the candidate(s) is expected:
- Based on solid science, including natural and/or social sciences;
- Address global inequalities;
- Demonstrate measurable/scalable impacts on an environmental issue, policy or practice.
- Demonstrate involvement with the younger generation.

The submission deadline is Friday 11 August 2023 at 5am (Brasilia time). Late submissions will not be considered.
People or organisations making nominations should know how their nominee's achievements fit the above criteria and will be asked a series of questions that can answer these criteria.
Information you will need for the application form:
- Full names, addresses, home or mobile telephone numbers, etc. of the Nominee and Nominator. All nomination forms must include the home and/or mobile phone number of the nominee and nominator. The nomination form is now an online enrolment form. Note: there are now two forms to choose from, the individual form or the organisation form.
- A one- to two-page summary of the achievements, discoveries, improvements or other contributions of the individual or organisation for which the award is proposed, including links to appropriate websites and works.
- A list of 3 to 5 individuals (include a contact name, organisation and email address) who would be ready to provide letters of reference if the nomination progresses to the short list. References are expected to provide specific information about the impact of the nominee's work, as well as the other criteria for the Award.
- In the case of a indication for an individual, a Short Curriculum Vitae must be submitted and include links (if available) to appropriate publications, reports and websites presenting the unique contribution(s) for which the nomination is being made.
- In the case of a nomination for an organisation, provide a leaflet or fact sheet, links to the website, all relevant data and any additional information to support the nomination.

All nominees will be considered for three years from the first year of nomination. If your nominee has advanced to the shortlist, you will be notified by 29 September.
