In partnership with USAID, the Last Mile Project is seeking to identify companies that demonstrate a proven or promising innovation to address the prevention and/or control of emerging diseases, are ready for growth and would benefit from Last Mile Project technical assistance.

To support USAID's Global Health Security (GHS) objectives, this programme will aim to identify and strengthen the market entry and scale-up of health innovations that can strengthen the prevention, detection and/or response to infectious disease threats worldwide.

Solutions should focus on the late-stage development of a biomedical small form factor technology and support the following objectives of the GHS Programme:

  • Reducing the spread of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) in humans or animals from
    which zoonotic pathogens spread;
  • Improved detection and/or identification of potential or actual pathogens associated with
    EIDs; and/or
  • Better understanding of the epidemiology of EIDs among humans, animals,
    insects and/or the environment.

Eligibility Criteria

Solutions can include any new/emerging technologies, products, processes or approaches that can support the main objectives of the programme described below:

  1. Prevent disease outbreaks
  2. Detect threats early
  3. Respond quickly and effectively when outbreaks occur

Benefits

Each company will be matched with a PLM Subject Matter Expert (SME) and will gain individual technical advice, training and mentoring support to design a solution to a key business challenge being faced by the company. Companies may also be eligible for up to a maximum of US$ 200,000 in grant funding, plus separate technical assistance.
