The US$ 10,000 Norman Borlaug Prize for Field Research and Application, awarded by the Rockefeller Foundation, will be presented every October in Des Moines, Iowa, by the World Food Prize Foundation.
This award will recognise outstanding, science-based performance in international agriculture and food production by an individual under the age of 40 who has clearly demonstrated intellectual courage, resilience and determination in the fight to eliminate global hunger and poverty.
The award will honour an individual who is working closely and directly "in the field" or at production or processing level with farmers, animal breeders, fishermen or others in rural communities in any discipline, or enterprise across the food production, processing and distribution chain.

- To receive the prize, the selected individuals must attend the award ceremony and also participate in media events and other World Food Prize events in mid-October in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The World Food Prize Foundation will provide round-trip air transport for a prize winner from their place of work, as well as meals and accommodation while in Des Moines.
ELIGIBILITY
- Nominees must be under the age of 40 (their 40th birthday must not be before World Food Day, 16 October of the year in which the award is presented).
- Nominees must be actively working in the discipline, research area, position or on the project(s) for which they are being recognised. They may be associated with a public or private teaching, research or development organisation or related entity.
- Nominees remain eligible for consideration beyond the year of their nomination, at the discretion of the Awards Jury, provided the award criteria and age requirement are met.
- The prize must be awarded to one person. In unusual and rare circumstances, another person can share the award for pronounced collaborative efforts and achievement.
