Twice a year, the European Commission offers 5-month paid traineeships in its directorates-general, agencies and bodies, which have signed a Service Level Agreement with DG EAC/the Commission.

Trainees work throughout the European Commission, in its services and agencies, mainly in Brussels, but also in Luxembourg and throughout the European Union. The nature of your work will depend on the service you are assigned to. You could, for example, work in the field of competition law, human resources, environmental policy, etc.

The trainee's daily work consists of:

  • Attending and organising meetings, working groups and public hearings
  • Research, preparation of final editing documentation - including reports and consultations
  • Answering citizens' questions
  • Project management support

Eligibility Criteria:

  • EU citizens, regardless of age. A limited number of places are also allocated to non-EU citizens.
  • Have completed a standard 3-year degree course (180 credits), corresponding to a full degree cycle, or equivalent. You must have a certificate or official confirmation from your university that you have such a degree to be eligible to apply.
  • No previous professional experience of more than 6 weeks in any EU institution, body or agency, delegation, with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), or Advocates General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (EUCJ).
  • Have a very good knowledge of languages

What support do you receive during your internship?

As a trainee, you will receive a monthly stipend to cover your living expenses. The stipend/living allowance is paid at the end of each month. However, the first will only be paid after 4 weeks of actual internship. The living allowance for the internship sessions will be 1,229.32 euros per month.
