Innovation Challenge: World Bank’s ‘Small AI for Development’ Hackathon in Cape Verde
Young people of Cape Verde, the World Bank invites you to be part of the solution! Get ready for the World Bank ‘Small AI for Development’ Hackathon, a life-changing event taking place on 26 September 2026. This is an open invitation to brilliant and innovative minds, aged between 18 and 35, to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle the pressing challenges facing our country. Whether you’re a programmer, designer, data scientist, entrepreneur or simply someone with a passion for technology and a desire to make a difference, this event is for you!
The “Small AI for Development” Hackathon is not just a coding marathon; it is a platform for the co-creation of solutions that have a positive impact on Cape Verdean communities. Participants will have the opportunity to develop innovative AI prototypes, focusing on key areas such as health, education, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy and smart infrastructure. We believe that AI, even on a small scale, has the potential to optimise processes, improve decision-making and empower citizens.
This programme aims to develop the next generation of digital leaders and innovators in Cape Verde. As well as a competitive and stimulating environment, participants will have access to specialist mentors, practical workshops and valuable resources from the World Bank and its partners. It will be an intensive learning experience, where teamwork, creativity and the ability to think ‘outside the box’ will be essential. The winning projects will not only receive the recognition they deserve, but also the opportunity to receive support for future incubation and scalability.
Taking part in this hackathon is a unique opportunity to showcase your skills, expand your network and contribute directly to Cape Verde’s digital and sustainable future. Now is the time to let your imagination run wild and apply your technological knowledge to drive development across our archipelago.
Don’t miss this chance to make a difference!
