The Nexa programme: From Climate Risk to Health Resilience represents a crucial opportunity to transform the health response in Cape Verde. As an archipelago that is particularly vulnerable to climate change, the country faces unique challenges, such as water scarcity, rising sea levels and the spread of vector-borne diseases. This funding opportunity focuses on the phase of Transition to Scale (Transition to Scale), with the aim of building on initiatives that have already been tested and proven to ensure they achieve a systemic and sustainable impact across the whole of Cape Verde.

Objectives of the Funding

The main aim of this funding programme is to consolidate innovation projects that link climate adaptation with the protection of public health. Above all, the aim is to strengthen health infrastructure and empower local communities to respond swiftly to climate-related shocks.

Eligible proposals must demonstrate how the transition to a higher level will:

  • To reduce the vulnerability of the populations most at risk from extreme weather events.
  • It improves monitoring and epidemiological surveillance based on climate data.
  • To ensure the continuous and sustainable operation of health centres and hospitals through clean energy and water efficiency solutions.

Who Can Apply and Eligibility Criteria

This call for proposals is aimed at non-governmental organisations, research institutions, social enterprises and organisations in the health sector that have already successfully implemented pilot projects in Cape Verde or in similar island contexts.

To submit a competitive application, the proposal must include a clear strategy for long-term financial sustainability, strong partnerships with government or local bodies, and measurable indicators of impact on community health.
