O Science Councils Initiative Capacity Building Hub (SGCI) This represents a crucial milestone in the development of scientific and governance capacity in Cape Verde. This innovative project aims to establish a center of excellence dedicated to strengthening the infrastructure for evidence-based decision-making, integrating scientific knowledge into public policy formulation processes. With a particular focus on the needs and potential of the archipelago, the Hub will equip policymakers, researchers, and relevant stakeholders with the skills and tools necessary to access, interpret, and apply scientific data to address pressing challenges.

We believe that fostering a robust culture where science informs policy is fundamental to driving the sustainable development of Cape Verde. The SGCI Capacity Building Hub will be a catalyst for this change, providing specialized training in areas such as science policy analysis, information management, effective science communication, and risk assessment. Through interactive workshops, seminars, mentoring, and the development of accessible educational resources, we aim to build a collaborative network between the scientific community, government, and civil society. This strengthened ecosystem will allow Cape Verde to respond more quickly and in an informed manner to complex issues, from climate change to public health and economic development.

The project will not be limited to individual capacity building; the Hub will also seek to create lasting platforms for knowledge exchange and ongoing collaboration. This will include the development of a digital repository of scientific data relevant to Cape Verde, the facilitation of regular dialogues between scientists and policymakers, and support for the creation of thematic scientific councils that can guide specific policies. By strengthening these links, the SGCI Capacity Building Hub aims to ensure that scientific innovation and technical knowledge translate into more effective public policies and tangible results for the well-being of the Cape Verdean population. The sustainability of the Hub and its long-term impact will be ensured through the integration of this knowledge into the existing institutional fabric and the promotion of a culture of continuous learning.

Proposals will be accepted until April 30, 2026.
