CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: LOVE IN DECEMBER VOL. III

Love in December, a literary anthology that celebrates the festive spirit of the Christmas season and the cultural richness of the Cape Verdean diaspora, opens its doors for its third edition. This project, which has been enthusiastically received in previous editions, aims to bring together both emerging and established writing talents in narratives that echo the magic, human warmth and traditions inherent in this festive season, but always through the unique and multifaceted lens of Cape Verdean identity. The third edition of "Amor em Dezembro" aims to raise the bar, offering readers an even richer and more diverse mosaic of stories, poems and tales that celebrate the beauty of our people and the universality of love.

The project is based on the belief that literature is a powerful tool for preserving and promoting cultural identity. Through words, we share memories, transmit values and celebrate our roots, perpetuating the rich tapestry of Cape Verdean culture. "Amor em Dezembro" goes beyond the celebration of Christmas; it explores the complexities of family relationships, homesickness, hope for the future and the various forms of love that blossom during the month of December, under the light of Cape Verdean culture.

For this third edition, the call for submissions is open to authors of all nationalities, as long as their works are inspired by or fit in with the proposed theme, with a clear link to Cape Verde or its diaspora. The texts must be unpublished, with the aim of offering the public an original and stimulating reading experience. We accept short stories, poems and short sketches, always in European Portuguese or Cape Verdean Creole (in its written transcription), guaranteeing accessibility for a wider audience. The length of the texts should be appropriate to the chosen literary genre, with a maximum of 5,000 words suggested for short stories, and creativity is the limit for poems and sketches.

The texts will be selected by an experienced team of editors and writers, who will assess their literary quality, originality and ability to evoke the emotions and traditions associated with Christmas and Cape Verdean culture. The selected authors will have the opportunity to have their works published in an anthology that will be made available in digital format and, depending on the success of the fundraising, in physical format. In addition to publication, the selected authors will receive a copy of the anthology and will be promoted through our communication platforms.

This initiative is a call for participation. We invite all writers, poets and storytellers to share their particular vision of love, family and tradition in a narrative that echoes the memories and hopes of Cape Verde. Join us on this literary journey and help us perpetuate the flame of "Love in December". We look forward to receiving your words and celebrating the magic of Cape Verdean writing.

Deadline for submissions: 10-10-2025
