Supporting Development: Fostering Social Enterprises in Cape Verde Through the DRK Foundation
Early-stage social enterprises represent a crucial driver for Cape Verde's sustainable economic development, offering innovative solutions to pressing social and environmental challenges. It is therefore imperative to invest in these promising initiatives, which combine entrepreneurial ambition with a profound positive social impact. The DRK Foundation, aware of this need, is seeking, through this proposal, to support the growth and consolidation of social enterprises in Cape Verde, maximising their potential for transformation.
Our intervention focuses on supporting social enterprises in the start-up phase, which are taking their first steps on the market. We recognise the difficulties inherent in this phase, such as obtaining funding, validating the business model, building competent teams and establishing strategic partnerships. It is precisely in these areas that the DRK Foundation aims to act, offering a range of structured and personalised solutions.
The project we are proposing is based on three fundamental pillars:
- Financial support: Provision of micro-credits and small grants to cover start-up costs such as equipment acquisition, product or service development and basic operating expenses. The financing line will be adapted to Cape Verde's reality and focused on the long-term sustainability of companies.
- Mentoring and training: Implementation of a robust mentoring and training programme, focusing on management, marketing, finance and social impact. Experienced mentors will be selected, with knowledge of the local context and proven experience in social enterprises. Workshops, seminars and individualised follow-up sessions will be offered to ensure the development of essential skills.
- Networking and Promotion: Facilitating networking opportunities with other social entrepreneurs, investors, partners and government bodies. The DRK Foundation will also promote the supported companies through communication campaigns and participation in relevant events, increasing the visibility of their initiatives and helping them to reach new clients and partners.
We believe that this project will have a significant impact on the social enterprise ecosystem in Cape Verde. Expected results include:
