The search is for sub-Saharan African start-ups with technological solutions aimed at positively impacting lower-income communities through these industries.

About the Award: Seedstars and the Shell Foundation joined forces to look for sustainable, scalable and innovative start-ups that address universal access to energy-related challenges, as well as sustainable agriculture, mobility and transport.
With the support of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), they are launching the Energy, Mobility and Agriculture Innovation Programme to find African tech entrepreneurs in the mobility, transport, energy and agriculture space in order to provide them with resources, training and potential funding to scale their startups and make an impact.
The aim of this programme is to support, catalyse and train early-stage (seed) technology-led start-ups with high potential, working towards:
- universal access to energy (domestic energy for heat, light and cooking; energy for businesses and large communities);
- sustainable mobility and transport (clean and safe transport in rural areas and last mile transport);
- or sustainable agricultural value chains (innovations that improve access to knowledge, finance, markets or expertise for family farmers).

Eligibility: Below are the criteria for startups interested in applying to the programme:
- The start-up must be African-led and based or operating in at least one sub-Saharan African country;
- The technological solution must be focused on the mobility, transport, energy or agriculture value chains;
- The startup must be at an early stage/seed round with a minimum viable product (MVP);
- Startups must have initial traction and already be able to generate revenue;
- startup must have raised just less than US $ 1 million so far; And
- The startup must have a significant positive impact on lower-income communities (in line with SDG 2, 7 or 11)

Premium amount: The selected startups will be able to participate in Seedstars' three-month Investment Readiness Programme, which will provide entrepreneurs with 1-on-1 mentoring with industry experts, potential funding opportunities and take advantage of the human and knowledge resources available within the Shell Foundation.
