Scholarship Opportunities for African Women in the Food Sector
The Leading African Women in Food Fellowship Programme (LAWFF) 2025 offers an exceptional opportunity for African women seeking to advance their careers in the food sector. This programme aims to enable and empower women leaders to drive the transformation of the food system in Africa.
LAWFF offers scholarships to African women who are studying or planning to study master's or doctoral programmes in areas related to food, agriculture, nutrition or environmental sciences. The scholarships cover tuition fees, living expenses, health insurance and professional development opportunities.
In addition to financial support, LAWFF offers a network of mentors, workshops and conferences to support the fellows' professional and personal growth. Fellows also have the opportunity to collaborate with industry experts and take part in innovative research projects.
The programme recognises the importance of women's role in food security and sustainable development. By investing in women leaders, LAWFF aims to create a more diverse and inclusive workforce in the African food sector.
Candidates must be citizens of an African country, have an exceptional academic record and demonstrate a strong commitment to the development of the food sector. The selection process is competitive and candidates are assessed on the basis of their academic merits, professional experience and leadership potential.
LAWFF is an initiative of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and is funded by the African Development Bank. The programme is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
By empowering African women to lead the food sector, LAWFF contributes to the transformation of the food system in Africa, promoting food security, nutrition and sustainable development. The programme is an investment in the future of Africa, where women play a key role in building a fairer and more equitable food system.
